Who Raised You — Scrooge McDuck or Dave Seville?

We were reminiscing about the “guardian figures” of our childhood cartoons, the characters who taught us responsibility, problem-solving, and sometimes… patience. They shaped the way we lead, solve problems, and even handle conflict today.

Scrooge McDuck: The grumpy-but-loving uncle who turned every problem into a treasure hunt and taught us the value of a good ROI.

Dave Seville: The long-suffering, ever-patient dad yelling “ALVIN!” while teaching accountability and teamwork.

And it doesn’t stop there:

  • Papa Smurf – the wise village elder

  • Splinter – the disciplined mentor

  • Professor Utonium – the scientist dad who believed in his creations

  • Grandpa Max – the adventurer grandpa with a plan

These characters shaped how we think about leadership, strategy, and problem-solving. We like to think we channel a little bit of all of them:
– Scrooge’s strategy
– Dave’s patience
– Papa Smurf’s wisdom
– Splinter’s discipline
-Grandpa Max’s resourcefulness

Because leading a team or managing a client project isn’t just about telling people what to do. It’s about guiding, teaching, and sometimes shouting “ALVIN!” when things go sideways.

So here’s the question for you: Who was YOUR cartoon guardian? Who taught you your first lessons in leadership, responsibility, and teamwork?

Jeanmarie’s throwback post got us thinking: the guardians of our childhood cartoons still teach us how to lead, guide, and tackle challenges today.
