Happy Mother’s Day by Jeanmarie Loria

Did you grow up thinking Mother’s Day was always the second Sunday in May? Me too. It’s one of those things we just accept — it’s on the calendar, in every store window, and in every reminder notification this time of year. But recently, I was talking to a friend from another country, and she told me something that made me pause. Her mom believed she should be honored every day — not just one. And honestly, she’s right.

Some mothers raise us. Some mentor us. And some create beauty that reflects the very soul of the world around us. This blog is a celebration of all three. To all the mothers and mother figures out there — near or far, in our homes or in our hearts — Happy Mother’s Day.

That conversation made me think of my favorite Mum. And here’s a fun fact: her Mother’s Day is actually in March, not May. I looked it up (because of course I did). In the UK, Mother’s Day traces back to a 16th-century tradition called Mothering Sunday. It falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which changes every year based on the church calendar. In 2025, it landed on March 30th.

So, sure — we can stick to the May date. But I’m choosing to honor my Mum today and every day.

Let me tell you a little bit about her.

Her name is Jacqui Sieger, and she is an artist in every sense of the word. A modern contemporary impressionist, she creates stunning pieces that reflect the movement and energy of the sea and landscape. Her signature multi-layer technique — blending luminous acrylics with oils — gives each painting a living quality. The light changes, and so does the mood of the work.

She’s spent over 20 years honing this craft, developing a style that’s completely her own. Each painting offers a different feeling, a different window into something deeper — and it’s no surprise that people connect with her work instantly.

You can explore her artwork here.

So back to Mum, who I want to celebrate for being not only an amazing mother, but a woman of passion, depth, and wild creativity. I am endlessly inspired by her — and grateful for the light she brings into the world.

And to every mother, mentor, and magic-maker reading this:

I hope someone honors you today. But I really hope they honor you tomorrow, too.
